Fabric Maintenance Productivity Gains and Cost Savings

Our most recent innovation, HICO2 blasting equipment, was recently deployed onto a major Gas Terminal in Northern Europe to remove heavy corrosion and defective coatings from pipework.

The project formed part of a fabric maintenance campaign, used by the existing fabric maintenance contractor. This brought nearly 300% gains in productivity and a massive 65% cost reduction compared to traditional methods.

HICO2 blasting is a unique and innovative process developed by Dry Ice Scotland specifically for the removal of corrosion and coatings during fabric maintenance campaigns. The process removes surface contaminants and leaves a surface suitable for immediate recoating.

The process leaves no media residue, bringing huge savings in encapsulation and clean-up. The specialist media, HICO2, is manufactured on-site.

The project was a huge success and the equipment has now been maintained on-site to be used as part of the long-term fabric maintenance equipment mix. The blasting equipment is fully ATEX-certified and Dry Ice Scotland provided training and supervision to the on-site contractor.

Significant productivity gains and cost savings were realised due to the man hours saved on scaffold, encapsulation, masking up, day to day clean-up, final clean up, scaffold dismantle and removing of all sheeting protection.
